Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled the most common questions we hear on a regular basis.

What is Krav Maga, and how do we teach it?

Krav Maga is an Israeli system of self-defense created for their military. It is now used around the world as the go-to system for hand-to-hand combat. Since becoming available for civilian usage in the 80's, millions of people around the world have now learned Krav Maga to protect themselves and their families. With 70+ years of exposure to military combat and countless thousands of examples in non-military encounters, Krav Maga is continually refined to meet the needs of its users. Our instructors are kept up to date by continually training under the watchful eyes of the best Krav Maga instructors in the world at Krav Maga Global.

Who are you trained by or affiliated with?

For Krav Maga we are affiliated with Krav Maga Global (KMG) and all of our instructors have trained with the master instructors there, including the founder and chief instructor Eyal Yanilov. Mike Coffin is part of the KMG USA National Team.

For Kettlebell we have several instructors who are HKC, RKC, SFG and SFG II certified.

What is the structure of a krav maga class?

We teach each class in the same approximate format: light warm up (5 - 10 minutes), fundamentals (35 - 45 minutes), techniques & technical work (35 - 45 minutes), and summary drill (5 - 10 minutes).

Do I need prior experience before joining krav maga?

No! Most of our students have no prior martial arts or fighting background, or very little. We have new people in class nearly everyday, so our instructors and other students are familiar and comfortable working with new students.

Do I need to be in "good shape" before joining?

No! We do not base your progress on your physical fitness shape. It is our job to teach people self-defense regardless of their current level of physical fitness.

How many classes does a typical student take each week?

Our memberships allow for you to take as many classes per week as you want, but the average student comes 2 times per week. Some students come 6 times per week, and some only come once per month. Regardless, even if you come just once per month you are still better off than if you didn't come at all.

What ages do you accept?

For our Krav Maga classes students that are 11 years and older may usually attend alone. I do caution parents - This is an all adult program and we do not watering down the system in any way.

Do you have discounts for Law enforcement, military, veterans and first responders?

Yes! We offer great rates for those who are helping and risking their lives for our community each day. Please ask us about them!
